The Bird Paradise is undergoing a change!
In the past, you could see Blue peacocks, Sacred ibises, and many other bird species here. The Bird Paradise is transforming into a European Bird Paradise. This means that several bird species will no longer be visible in the enclosure, as they are not native to Europe.
European birds play a crucial role in the ecosystem. They contribute to the spread of seeds, but also keep insect populations in check and contribute to the biodiversity of our ecosystem. Due to urbanization, intensive agriculture, and climate change, European bird species are finding it increasingly difficult to survive in nature.
That is why Mondo Verde has brought together various facets of the European landscape in the European Bird Paradise. This is to promote the European bird species that live in this enclosure. To mimic their natural habitat, streams, lakes, various types of vegetation, a beach, and a waterfall have been created. The water features are surrounded by rocks, grasslands, trees, shrubs, sand, and rock faces. In this way, Mondo Verde encourages natural behavior among European birds, such as foraging for insects in the grasslands, building a nest in a rock face, or sleeping in a tree.
Some of the bird species that live in this enclosure are also found in the Netherlands. When you walk through the park, you may spot them in the wild. In the England world garden (further on in the park), Mondo Verde has set up a conservation project to protect native birds, bees, and butterflies. By adding bird- and insect-friendly plants, roosting places, and nesting boxes, this world garden is being transformed into a bird- and insect-friendly garden. The aim is to preserve local biodiversity.
