Project Grootz visits Mondo Verde

Last week, Project Grootz visited Mondo Verde. During their lessons, the students had made beautiful scratching posts for the Black Panthers ‘Koda’ and ‘Kenai’.

Before the scratching posts were hung in the enclosure, the students were given more information about the Panthers. The animal caretakers told them more about their habitat, diet, natural behavior, and the difference between Panthers in the wild and in the zoo.

The animal caretakers then went into the outdoor enclosure to hang the scratching posts. Of course, Koda and Kenai were inside. The students indicated where they wanted the scratching posts to be placed. The animal caretakers then left the enclosure and let Koda and Kenai explore. You can see how Koda and Kenai reacted to the new enrichment in the video.

We would like to thank Project Grootz, in particular the students Pepijn, Marijn, Seloy, Lauren, Boris, Sieme, Niek, Connor, and Rens for their outstanding efforts and wonderful scratching posts. We would also like to extend a special thank you to the supervisors Enola, Marieke and Thy who made this possible.
